Pregnancy

I found out I was pregnant with Hagen on July 4th, 2010. We had just got home from a trip to Utah because Weston had to take a test. We had done some fun things and visited Hoagle Zoo. I just hadn't felt like myself and was worried I was getting sick. One the way home Cole started to get a really goopey, yucky eye and by the time we were home I had it too. I woke up the next morning with a headache, and then the thought struck me that I might be pregnant. We had been trying to have a baby for about 5 months with no luck, so I was pretty excited when the test came back positive. I didn't tell Weston until the next day, he was working for Rudd & Company then and was cooking hot dogs at the Rexburg parade. I thought it would be funny to text him the news and see his reaction from afar. I did just that and he was too busy to check his phone until we were in the car on the way home. We were both pretty excited and very nervous at the same time. Three kids seemed like a lot!

The whole pregnancy went really well. I was extremely tired and grumpy most of the summer, but by fall I felt great! I had been running all summer and continued to exercise a lot throughout the whole pregnancy. I think this really helped me out as far as not gaining so much weight. I ended up gaining about 25 pounds.

The best was when we told the kids, they were so excited to have a new baby. We all went together to the ultrasound to find out the gender of the baby. Weston was sure it was a girl, Kallie really wanted a girl and Cole wanted a boy. I really didn't know what to think. When the ultrasound tech said it was a boy, Kallie's little lip started to quiver and she cried. She was pretty disappointed and it didn't help that Cole said, "I am the winner, I knew it was a boy!" It was hard for the kids to have such a long wait until the baby arrived. I would try to give them milestones like after Christmas and after Valentine's Day the baby will come. One time I told Cole that after the snow comes then we will have a baby. The first day there was a snowfall, he said, " are we going to go get the baby today mom?"

The doctor finally scheduled a C-Section for March 1st. My actual due date was March 6th. I knew I would never make it until March 1st. I don't know how I knew, but I did have a lot of contractions starting about six weeks before my due date. I started to wind down and take it easy a little bit, but I felt so good that that was hard to do.

The day Hagen was born I had been up all night long with contractions. They were very irregular though and not horribly painful so I wasn't too concerned. The next morning I walked on the treadmill for thirty minutes and then got the kids up and ready for the day. Weston and I were headed to Ryan Hill's funeral and so I was hurrying to get the kids were they needed to be. When we got to the funeral, it was packed and HOT! About an hour into the funeral I started having contractions again. They were getting more painful and more regular, so I started to time them. I would have them every two minutes for about 10 minutes and then have none for ten minutes. The funeral went over two hours and I was roasting and exhausted by the time it was over. I was ready to get out of there, and Weston just kept finding people to talk to. I finally told him that I had to go. When we got in the car I told him I thought I might be in labor, he laughed and said I could only hope. We went and got Cole and went home, Weston headed off to work. I waited until Kallie got home from school and then I had a doctor's appointment. I took the kids to Mindy's and told her I would be back in thirty minutes. At the doctors office I asked him if he would check me because I had been having so many contractions. (They had mostly stopped by this point) Anyway I was at a 3 and 100% thinned, he hooked me up to some machines to test my contractions and then told me that I was going pretty quickly and he would meet me at the hospital in one hour to do a C-section. He told me I didn't have time to go home or anything, just go straight to the hospital and get started on IV's. I was super excited but nervous too. I didn't have anything ready like I had planned to. I called Mindy and asked if she could keep the kids for awhile. (They were so excited) I called my mom and Weston, neither of whom really believed me until I told them I was in the elevator at the hospital and to hurry up and get there. Luckily I had the video and snapshot cameras in my purse. When I got up to the Labor and Delivery unit I was thrilled to see Debi Potter! She instantly made herself my nurse and we got things going. Weston got there right as they were putting me in a room so I made him hurry and snap a picture of me because we did that with the other kids and they are funny to look at. Bruce and Patti showed up then also, my dad was at a wrestling tournament in Sugar but came right over. It was strange to think I was going to have a baby when I really felt great, no pain or anything. By 5:00 pm, I was being wheeled down the hall to the surgery room. Hagen was born at 5:27 pm.
